Ok well update on my birtday package. I learned that it arrived at the post office the day before my birthday but the problem is that in france, (or at least here) you have to pick your package up at the post office nearest to you, and the Package was addressed to the McIntosh's and myself. Most of the time that is good because the senior couple is on the island and can come pick up the package, but the McIntosh's are a CES couple and they have alot more responsibility off of the island so sometimes they need to leave. They are out this week and I went up today to pick up my package and it turns out that the Post office was closed...lame! But the McIntosh's get back tommorrow and they'll pick it up and when I go up on friday to pick up my Visa I'll probably be able to get it from them. Also for the moment I don't think there is anything you can do for me, but thanks so much!
This last week was really cool, we found a few really cool people. One's name is Kevin, he was born here in Basse-Terre but his parents are from france. He's 28 and hasn't been able to find a job and admits that he has kind of lost desire to find one as well. (He's living at his parent's house) He is really smart and has lots of time on his hands so he lets us come over often. Our second visit there we introduced the book of mormon and he said that he would read it, he says he really likes reading and that one time he found a bible in his parent's room when he was little, like 6 or 7 or so and read it (not all in one sitting but still) We went back on saturday and he said that he will not be able to come to church but he said he read in the book of mormon, I asked him where he got to and he said "around page 100" so he read 100 pages in 2 days! it was sweet to hear that:
We found a couple this week up in the hills of Basse-Terre in an area called Saint-Claude. We were tracting some houses and I walked into a Cul-de-sac and saw a VERY large man. VERY large. Like body builder large. I explained that we were missionaries and he said "yeah I'd love to listen to you! Then he called his wife over and explained that we would be coming over at around 4 and if he wasn't there to let us in. His wife was WAY white, which was a really big surprise. Well we went back later that day and they weren't there. They live in the bottom part of a house and a kid from the top came out and told us that they said sorry they couldn't be there and they asked us to come back the next day in the afternoon. We told the kid 5 o'clock and then just hoped that the kid would remember. We got there at 5 the next day and they weren't there. I was pretty bummed out but not hugely surprised, so we went to go and the wife pulled up. We started talking and she was like "my husband isn't here but you can wait he'll be like 10 or 15 mintutes." We said that we could come back in like 20 minutes and she said that was perfect. We came back and had a SWEET lesson. Really it's lessons like that that make you want to baptize the world. The couple Vanessa and Michel, they are SUPER funny together, just like newlyweds, but we found out that they are not offically married. They are great and super nice. They totally understood that if this message is true they will need to get baptized but the authority that has been restored. It was great.
Other than that it was a good week. We have been trying really hard to find people but it's a little hard because I don't know the area very well and elder olsen has been here for a really long time and has worked a little bit of everywhere so he doen't know where we can go either.
Also this new elmail place in Basse-terre opens at Two so that's why my email came so late. Our new appartment is really great, its really airy and it has a wrap around balcony it's probably the most homey missionary appartment I've lived in. It's almost like a real home. It's sweet.
